The Hayes Foundry was an old scrap metal refinery, but our clients wanted to transform it into a high end retail development. We needed to refurbish the original building, contemporise its services and amenities and complete extensive structural upgrades.

Key Performance Indicators:

N.Cole re-roofed the structure, completed structural upgrades, and reconstructed the foundry using structural steel and concrete block infill. This provided a perfect combination of heritage character and modern design. We then constructed 24 retail units within the foundry, which are now home to high-end fashion brands like Zambesi, World and Moochi. The project was delivered on time and on budget. p

This was our fourth fire station for Fire Emergency NZ, and was the largest constructed to date. Our client required a double-height basement, career and volunteer facilities, overnight accommodations, and a triple appliance bay.

Key Performance Indicators:

Excavation for the fire station had to begin outside of earthworks season so N.Cole built an innovative framework system to ensure we could meet the client's timeline in trying conditions. Once the foundations were down the precast panels were tied into the steel structure and the floor slabs were poured. The project boundary spanned a public berm containing a complex network of critical public infrastructure - all of which required lowering. Meticulous planning, and coordination enabled us to complete this project to a high standard and deliver our clients a building that could withstand the tough occupation of fire fighters for decades. p

Our client needed to build two large solid concrete foundation pads for installation of pre-manufactured satellite antennas. The framework holding these pads would need to be strong enough to withstand the weight of 100m3 of concrete in a single pour.

Key Performance Indicators:

N.cole installed ten 900mm in situ piles, designed and built the framework and sourced a bespoke fly-ash concrete to reduce concrete friction heat for the pour. We also coordinated a complex structural hold-down bolt template to receive the six legs of the satellite. These consisted of engineered feet to withstand concrete pressures during the mass pour and an intricate service duct suspended mid-slab. As usual, the works were completed on time and on budget. p
